Caminhos e práticas para uma educação antirracista
Zumbi dos Palmares em cordel, experiências no ensino de História em escolas públicas de Belém-PA
Abstract
The Brazilian historical context in recent years has been difficult for those who fight for a society against racism. From prejudiced statements by the Bolsonaro government to the omission of social policies and those aimed at combating racism in the state government of Pará under the management of Secretary Rossieli Soares, this context proves to be challenging for basic education teachers who believe in the transformative potential of education. Thus, this article brings an experience report of activities to promote an anti-racist education in the teaching of History, developed in 8th grade classes at two schools in the state education network in Pará, in the first half of 2023. As a strategy, we used the Brazilian cordel booklet Zumbi dos Palmares, by Hamurábi Batista, as a way for students to learn about the history of quilombos in Brazil and the trajectory of Zumbi do Palmares. In this way, we understand the basic education teacher as an intellectual with a social and transforming role.
