A agência indígena e o rompimento da tutela estatal
a construção da voz indígena no Brasil e o Programa de Índio
Abstract
This article aims to reflect on the action of indigenous peoples in Brazil in the context of the New Republic, based on a radio program entitled “Programa de Índio”. This program constitutes an oral documentary collection from the 1980s, following the trajectory of the indigenous movement within the scope of the União das Nações Indígenas (UNI). The construction of a discourse of an indigenous voice was strategic to open paths contrary to official indigenism, creating new representations about indigenous participation and agency, in the sense of breaking with state tutelage and acquiring conquests in the scope of the Federal Constitution of 1988. The efforts of the Nucleus of Indigenous Culture, one of UNI's branches, sought ways to dialogue with Brazilian society, through spokespersons of the unified movement, in order to circulate a new image of indigenous peoples, as claimants of their rights
