Abstract

This article aims to reflect on the limitations of contributions to the analysis of historical time by the French historian François Hartog, especially his categories of presentism and regimes of historicity. Therefore, I will revisit the formulations by Reinhart Koselleck under the theme of the semantics of historical times, while also incorporating Rodrigo Turin’s proposal on contemporary temporality and neoliberal semantics. As part of a specific case study, I will analyze the categorization of current times based on the statements from the Doomsday Clock produced by the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists. I believe that this effort will facilitate the identification of the production of an experience of time that cannot be easily classified within Hartog’s categories.
