The need for the municipality of Xangri-Lá (RS) to prepare your management plan of dunes resulted in this construction method for the active coastal management priority sectors. Between September and October 2005, the diagnostic study appropriated of classical techniques of beach morphodynamics, morphology and ecology of the dunes, complemented with getting an array of environmental data and urbanistic standards (checklist) for defining vulnerability indices (IV). The matrix of the variables employed in measurement and calculation of IV was subjected to multivariate analysis, resulting in the classification of five coastal regions with similar characteristics. A total of 40 variables used, twelve stood out as the most important and sufficient to classify the clusters. The degradation risk and erosion of the foredunes increased with pressure of use and reduction it on grounds of urban advancement on the areas of increased mobility of sand, which may accentuate the natural geological landscape of erosion. The inventory of dunes identified 67 % of profiles on erosion by wind and wave processes deflation, 25 % with stability and a profile affected by urbanization.Downloads
