Abstract

The genera Dadoxylon Endlicher and Araucarioxylon Kraus have been related to different groups and, recently, had their legitimacy questioned based on the International Code of Botanical Nomenclature (ICBN). In the first part of this re-evaluation, the species belonging to the genus Dadoxylon were considered. In this second part the Araucarioxylon speciesare analyzed based on recent proposals and rules of ICBN. As a result of the present study, among the 16 species identified in the literature, eight were recombined in three different genera, four in Agathoxylon Hartig [Agathoxylon africanum, A. karooensis, A. nandorii. e A. petrielae], one in Brachyoxylon Hollick & Jeffrey [Brachyoxylon semibisseriatum] and three in Protocupressinoxylon Eckhold [Protocupressinoxylon bhivkundense, P. surangei e P. wejgaoense]; one was considered invalid [Araucarioxylon ghovawarense], four kept unaffected due to the absence of enough diagnostic features [Araucarioxylon meridionale, A. nummularium, A. schmidianum e A. sp. Crisafulli & Lutz], one was considered as part of a new genus which will not be subject of this contribution [Araucarioxylon roxoi] and two were not analyzed [Araucarioxylon kothariensis e A. robertianum].
