Rare-earth elements, yttrium and fluorine contents were analyzed in fifteen fossil bones and their bearing rocks. These samples came from Permian (Irati and Rio do Rasto formations) and Triassic (Santa Maria Supersequence) sedimentary layers of Paraná Basin, Brazil. Analyzes were performed using ICP-MS for REE and selective electrode for fluorine. All bone samples have much higher REE contents than their respective sedimentary host rocks. Statistical correlations indicated that F is the main complexing agent of REE and Y in these fossil bones. After comparing the REE signatures of the sedimentary rocks with those from the bones contained in them, it was possible to verify that they represent peripheral assemblages. The Ce anomalies allowed the differentiation of reducing environments from oxidizing ones, and the LREE/HREE ratios indicated the degree of acidity of these environments. The Y/Ho ratios made it possible to identify, in the case of the Irati Formation (early Permian), the contribution of continental sediments to the marine environment. These findings corroborate previous faciological/paleoenvironmental studies that were carried out on the same localities where the studied fossils were collected. In addition to that, the analytical results showed significant variations within the distribution patterns of REE and Y in fossils and their sedimentary host rocks, and their distribution patterns are not related to a specific taxonomic group.
