The structural elements of Fazenda Muquém and its relationship with Chapada Diamantina (BA)

This work discusses the relationship between the structural elements at Fazenda Muquém, Paramirim (BA, Brazil), the geological history of Chapada Diamantina, and the stratigraphic position of the outcropping lithotypes. The units identified are Açuruá Formation of the Paraguaçu Group and the Tombador Formation of Chapada Diamantina Group. A survey and data treatment was carried out and showed a very close relationship with what was observed in the field, as well as with the presentation of this data treatment, yet agreening to the literature. One family, with a distensive character, is marked by normal faults, of high angle and preferential NNW/SSE orientation, related to the development of the Paramirim Aulacogen. The second
family of structures is compressional and nucleated during the frontal inversion of the aulacogen in four distinct stages. The first stage marks the phase of displacement between the cover units and the basement, with the development of NNW/SSE-oriented structures dipping to ENE. The two subsequent stages correspond to the stage of involvement of the basement in the deformation of the cover, and the last stage is characterized by the development of open folds associated with a prominent crenulation cleavage that rotates all previously nucleated structures. The axes of the latter structures are oriented in the NNW/SSE direction, dipping to WSW. The lineaments in the area indicate this prevalence of large-scale NNW/SSE oriented structures. A second group, represented by smaller structures, shows an ENE/WSW orientation.
