Abstract
Abstract: This article discusses Amazonian indigenous art, emphasizing body paintings made by five women from Mãe Maria Indigenous reserve, located at Bom Jesus do Tocantins, Pará, Brazil. We also problematize their use of body paintings as an ancestral culture survival strategy. Results demonstrated that body painting was a collective tradition that preserves ancestor’s ties as an important role of preserving evaluated indigenous women traditional knowledge. For them, this practice was fundamental to survival and tradition resistance, also crucial that be transmitted generation to generation among women in their communities, as encourages younger women to value indigenous body painting as a relevant female legacy.
