“WHAT ABOUT WHEN ‘CULTURE’ BECOMES AN ISSUE?”: RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN KAOIWA AND GUARANI CHILD EDUCATION AND THE RIGHTS ASSURANCE NET IN TE’ÝIKUE, CAARAPÓ – MS

Abstract

This article deals with questions about ways of using “culture” within the context of the relationships between the Kaiowa living in Te’ýkue, an indigenous land situated in the municipality of Caarapó/MS, and the agencies that configure the network of promotion and protection of the rights of children and teenagers. The text articulates questions referring to the effects of the intensification of the relationships between the ways of being of the Kaiowa and the Guarani – ñande reko – with the historical transformations effected throughout almost a century of lived experience with the ways of being of white people – karai reko. The goal of this research was to demonstrate the effects of transformations in Kaiowa and Guarani sociality starting from contexts of enunciation where culture and “culture” emerge as reflexive and objectifying operations for the Kaiowa and the Guarani as well as for those who are non-indigenous, in order to problematize what is at stake when concepts of culture are mobilized for the mediation of different modes of thinking regimes of knowledge.
