SMART CITIES FOR SMART CITIZENS:

THE SYNERGY BETWEEN INDIGENOUS WISDOM AND ENVIRONMENTAL BIOETHICS

Authors

Abstract

This study aimed to reflect on the challenges and potential of the synergy between indigenous wisdom and smart cities in a dialogue with Biophilia, Decolonialism, Biocentric/Ecocentric Constitutionalism, and Environmental Bioethics. An exploratory bibliographic and documentary analysis was carried out in the city of Curitiba, southern Brazil, and compared it with policies aimed at the inclusion of the indigenous population by 11 other colonized cities in the Americas, Africa, and Oceania. The former colonial nations analyzed still demonstrate gaps in the guarantee of territorial rights, self-determination, and representation of their indigenous populations, especially at the municipal level. The dissemination of actions aimed at cultural diffusion, access to public services, and representation in affirmative policies prevail. Environmental Bioethics welcomes the theme in its agendas, guiding the mitigation of vulnerabilities by offering a space for speech that results in a fusion of perspectives, interests, and values whose common goal is to build a city that provides quality of life for all its inhabitants.
