Abstract

This article analyzes the process of territorialization and the dynamics of sociability among the Kaingang in the Retomada Gãh Ré, based on specific ethnographic situations and a contextual analysis. In October 2022, Kaingang reclaimed their ancestral territory at the foot of Morro Santana, in the eastern zone of Porto Alegre. The strategy adopted by the indigenous group was to focus on a property that appealed to the social function of land, while also activating kinship and alliance networks for political action. Drawing on bibliographic and ethnographic research, the article investigates how land retakings struggles shape networks of sociability, emphasizing the role of kinship and the memory of elders in organizing reclamation efforts.
