Abstract

This study addresses the impact of threats to the Mãe Maria indigenous territory, in the municipality of Bom Jesus do Tocantins, and how they influence the mental health of the Gavião people. Its general objective is to analyse the impacts caused directly and indirectly to the indigenous people of the territory due to the invasion by infrastructure works and the conflict with surrounding farmers, and how their mental health is affected by these activities. In addition, the perception and experience of some indigenous people about these impacts on their territories is presented through qualitative data. The data showed that infrastructure activities have a negative impact on the mental health of indigenous people and their communities, affecting not only the indigenous people but also their territories.
