This work focuses on the analysis of a series of practices and discourses carried out by the Tentehar indigenous people, from the Araribóia Indigenous Land, in Maranhão, which suggest the existence of a supposed “advantage” that this people has over whites in certain contexts. With the aid of the category of understanding sagacity, proposed by Almeida, we analyze the interethnic relations experienced between the Tentehar and the whites, with the former making use of knowledge of the culture of the other to achieve small victories over their adversaries. Cleverness, the use of images, the blind spots constitute some of the relationship strategies that are activated by the Tentehar in interethnic relationships.
