O presente artigo tem como objetivo fazer algumas considerações sobre as questões que tangem a relação entre a história e a literatura na primeira metade do século XIX, especificamente nos Estados Unidos, através do romance The spy (1821) do nova-iorquino James Fenimore Cooper (1789-1851) e de textos críticos do autor contemporâneos à essa obra. Buscar-se-á elucidar algumas questões sobre como eram pensados os papeis do historiador e do romancista naquele contexto específico e de como essas diferenças se refletem no processo de formação de Cooper enquanto autor de um determinado modelo de romance histórico.Downloads
