Exílio: do Iraque a Israel
Exile: from Iraq to Israel - Abstract: For over 2500 years Jews lived in Iraq, ancient Babylon, where they developed an important culture. In the 20th century, several Jewish writers stood out in the local Arabic literature. This belonging to the country’s culture was cut out after the creation of the State of Israel, when the 120,000 Jews who lived in the old country were expelled, and the majority of them settled in the newborn country. The gap that emerged with the passage from one culture to another was considered by the writers as the gateway to a new exile. Only after several decades, some authors began writing in Hebrew, but only after a long period their books came to be included in the literary canon of the country. The condition of “exile” will be exposed through the books of some Israeli authors of Iraqi origin [Sami Michael, Shimon Ballas and Eli Amir].
