The theme of the journey in Aharon Appelfeld and Meir Shalev - Abstract: This article aims to trace the theme of the journey and its uniqueness in contemporary Israeli literature. For this purpose two novels by two very different authors are analyzed – Aharon Appelfeld and Meir Shalev – in an attempt to show the possible trajectories of the subject in Hebrew literature. The Jewish historical context that generated these trajectories is briefly discussed: in the works of Appelfeld, the Holocaust and wandering characters who are in constant search of a lost world; in the work of Shalev, the Zionist return to the land of Israel in the early 20th century, an event that illuminates the journeys of the pioneers with mythological light.
