Papal attitude towards Jews in early 13th century - Abstract: The Christian-Jewish relations in the Middle Ages presents distinct phases: a more tolerant under Augustinian influence and another in which there is a tense siege to the Jews. This article examines the change from the pontificate of Innocent III, which accentuates the isolation of the “other”, both Jews, and the other outsiders, and the beginning of the purification of the society by the mendicants as defenders of Christendom.
