Jael: murderer only, or also rapist? - Abstract: This article presents an interpretation of the biblical passage which tells the story of Jael, wife of Heber the Kenite, who murdered Sisera, the Canaanite general that once threatened the Israelites in the days of the Judges (Book of Judges 4 – 5). The question proposed in this interpretation is the following: did Jael employ the artifice of seduction to make Sisera go unarmed and, therefore, be able to kill him? This possibility and the evidence in its favor are presented and discussed in light of the customs of the Israeli population at the time, the basic principles of Judaism and textual and intertextual analysis, considering, in this last aspect, biblical passages such as the stories of Lot’s daughters (Genesis 19), Tamar daughter-in-law of Judah (Genesis 38) and Ruth.
