Cristãos-novos, identidade e Inquisição (Rio de Janeiro, século XVIII)
Resumo
O artigo aborda a comunidade cristã-nova fluminense do início do século XVIII, ao ser atingida pela ação do Tribunal Inquisitorial português, que prendeu 325 pessoas e as enviou para Lisboa para serem julgadas pelo crime de heresia judaizante. Analisa especialmente a questão da“pureza de sangue”, fundamental para a formação da identidade cristã-nova.
New Christians, identity and Inquisition (Rio de Janeiro, 18th century) - Abstract: This article studies the Rio de Janeiro New Christian community at the beginning of the 18th century, when the Portuguese Inquisition arrested and sent to Lisbon 325 persons to be judged as an heretic Jewishness crime. It analyzes mainly the question of the “purity of blood” as fundamental to the formation of the New Christian identity.
