Sionismo e progressismo: dois projetos para o judaísmo brasileiro
Resumo
Os diferentes grupos de imigrantes judeus que desembarcaram no Brasil trouxeram visões do mundo que se inscreviam em diferentes matizes, como as ideias socialistas, sionistas e assimilacionistas, entre outras. Ao propor a criação do Estado judeu como solução para erradicar o antissemitismo, o sionismo conclamou “todos” os judeus a se engajarem no movimento, porém existiam outras perspectivas, igualmente universais, para solucionar a questão judaica. No Brasil, durante a primeira metade do século XX, tais ideias e suas variações se polarizaram entre grupos favoráveis e contrários ao projeto sionista. O presente artigo, ao evidenciar o confronto entre sionistas e progressistas, analisa as contribuições desse confronto para a formação de uma comunidade judaico-brasileira.
Zionism and progressivism: two projects for Brazilian Judaism - Abstract: The various groups of Jewish immigrants who arrived in Brazil brought the world views that were part of different hues, as Socialist, Zionist and Assimilationist ideas, among others. In proposing the creation of the Jewish State as a solution to eradicate anti-semitism, Zionism called for “all” Jews to engage inthe movement, but there were other perspectives, equally universal, to solve the Jewish question. In Brazil, during the first half of the twentieth century, such ideas and their variations became polarized between groups pro and against the Zionist project. This article highlights the confrontation between Zionists and Progressives and analyzes its contributions for the formation of a Jewish community in Brazil.
