A complexidade da identidade sino-judaica
Resumo
Existe documentação sobre os enclaves judeus que se estabeleceram durante os séculos XIX e XX em várias cidades chinesas, mas nada existe sobre os primeirosassentamentos. A única exceção é a comunidade de Kaifeng, na China central, cidade que se tornou a mais importante do mundo durante a dinastia Song. Em Kaifeng, os judeus se estabeleceram em 1120 e, em 1163, construíram uma sinagoga. Essa comunidade única foi descoberta pela Europa em 24 de junho de 1605 e, por volta de 1860, ela desapareceu. Hoje, mais de 18 séculos após o início dessa comunidade, e um século e meio após o seu desaparecimento, algumas pessoas em Kaifeng afirmam que seus ancestrais foram judeus e desejam preservar sua identidade judaica. Sua situação atual é complexa: eles não são reconhecidos como judeus, nem pela lei judaica nem pela lei chinesa, e são vistos com suspeita. Isto poderá estar mudando, na medida em que a sociedade chinesa continua a se abrir e que essas pessoas aumentam seu contato com os judeus de fora. É difícil prever o futuro dos judeus de Kaifeng, visto que muitas questões políticas moldam sua identidade.The complexity of the Sino-Jewish identity - Abstract: There is documentation of the Jewish enclaves hosted during the 19th and 20th centuries in several Chinese towns but not of the earlier settlements. The only exception is the community of Kaifeng, Central China, town which during the Song Dynasty became the most important in the world. Jews settled here in 1120; in 1163 they built a synagogue. This unique community was discovered by Europe on June 24, 1605, and by 1860 it disappeared. Nowadays,more than eight centuries after the beginning of the community and a century and a half after its end, somepeople in Kaifeng claim Jewish ancestry and wish to preserve their Jewish identity. Their current situation iscomplex: They are not recognized as Jews either by Jewish or Chinese law and suspicion surrounds them. This might be changing as the Chinese society continues to open and as they deepen their contact with Jews from abroad. It is difficult to foresee the future of the Jews at Kaifeng, since many political issues shape their identity.
