The Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome patient assistance on a day care system came up as consequence of the disease evolution, which changed from acute level (requiring internation) to a chronic level, increasing the patients survival as well as improving life quality. The article reports the experience of these patients assistance developed at a University Hospital, on a day care basis. This new assistencial modality reduces hospital costs, maintains the treatment and allows the patient to spend more time with his/her family.Downloads
