Abstract

Orchidaceae is amongst the most diversified and species-rich Angiosperm families native to Rio Grande do Sul State (Southern Brazil). The aim of this work was to provide a complete floristic inventory of the orchid family at São Maximiano farm, Municipality of Guaíba. This area is floristically representative of both, the Mata Atlântica and Pampa Biomes. A total of 50 species (two subfamilies, six tribes and 11 subtribes) were recorded. This represents an increase of 13 species when compared to a preceding study involving exclusively epiphytic taxa. Pleurothallidinae was locally recorded as the richest orchid subtribe, with 16 species in eight genera. Two vulnerable species (according to the State Endangered Species List) were recorded: Cattleya intermedia and Cattleya tigrina. An artificial key for the identification of the species is also presented.
