A contribution on the occurrence of genus Limosella L. (Scrophulariaceae) in Brazil

Abstract

Limosella is an aquatic genus of wide distribution, with rosulate or fasciculate herbaceous representatives that inhabit muddy and waterlogged soils. Leaves are linear-cylindrical or spatulate; flowers are usually solitary, campanulate, pedunculate and minute, usually with 4 stamens; and the fruit is capsule type. The occurrence of Limosella is confirmed to Brazil based on two records in Rio Grande do Sul state, with a 150-year interval between collections: one in November 1865, at an uninformed location; and the other in December 2015, at the state mid coast. We present here a description of Limosella australis with notes on its distribution and habitat, as well as a brief historical review of the period when the first-record specimen was collected by the Baron of Capanema.
