Abstract

Based on the analysis of scientific articles in Latin American journals on human territorialities at a local level, this study develops an interpretation to understand the constitution of spaces appropriated by groups, communities and institutions as an alternative to dominant tendencies in the reproduction of space. The research supporting this interpretation takes as its starting point the understanding that the appropriation of space, a common expression that characterizes uses, spatial practices and interconnected imaginaries at both local and regional levels, is capable of producing or (re)establishing a singular and discordant arrangement in relation to global structures and dynamics. To this end, this article resorts to the selection, reading and analysis of published research reports in Latin American journals of Geography, History and Social Sciences available on the Scielo platform, totaling 27 scientific journals from seven countries. The analytical corpus was obtained using the open access software AntConc, employing filters previously established by terms raised in theoretical discussion on the topic, obtaining a final set of 114 articles. With the interpretation achieved, it is possible to gather references on six major groups of situations experienced, which reveal achievements, tensions or conflicts, and some losses of these local territorialities.
