Minha Casa Minha Vida Program and the urban conditions of the “Quinta dos Paricás” housing development in Belém - PA

Abstract

This article aimed to analyze the urban conditions of the My Home My Life Program (PMCMV) projects implemented by the Belém Municipal Housing Department (SEHAB), as well as to verify the impacts on improving the living conditions of residents. The choice of the “Quinta dos Paricás” project as the locus of study stands out. To this end, based on Critical Social Theory, the methodological procedures used were a bibliographic and documentary survey. Interviews were also conducted with SEHAB technicians, as well as with beneficiaries of the program. Among the results, it can be inferred that the PMCMV has its housing complexes located, for the most part, far from the urbanized space, encouraging the separation between social classes, as well as generating difficulty in accessing certain urban facilities and collective services found in the consolidated urban area. Despite this, it was analyzed that the program contributed positively to improving the living conditions of families due to access to their own housing, to the new forms of work developed by residents, in addition to other aspects presented by the subjects who claim to live in adequate housing.
