It is about a preliminary account of the ethnographic fieldwork that I have carried in the Salgado’s quarter, a locality of Caruaru-PE, Brasil, mainly inhabited by dressmakers. The narrative presents the memories of the family that housed me which are "privileged cases" for the comprehension of the work and their attributed meanings, in the place. One expects to introduce the reader in the social universe of the sulanqueiros. The first part constitutes the register of a long dialogue wealthy of teachings about the sewing and lessons concerning other professions that I did with one of my main informants. In the second part I present a fraction of the memories of their wife about the beginning of the confection’s cluster of the Pernambucano. Together the depositions compose, I believe, an expressive picture of very much frequents economics strategies between the families of the Salgado.

Keywords: Collective Memory.
