Theatricality and Spectacularity at the Feast Of Nazareth, In Belém do Pará

The Nazareth Party or “Círio de Nazaré” – the object of analysis in this article – embrace in itself some sequence of rituals which praise Nossa Senhora de Nazaré, the patron saint of state Pará, starting from the second Sunday of October, taking place in the capital city of the state, Belém. In this paper the theoretical basis for the development of reflections on the phenomenon under investigation is the Ethnoscenology, in dialogue with the Sociology of Social Drama. The construction of the "Cirieiro body" as a conceptual category is based on the categories of Theater and Spectacularity, and analyzes the body in processes of affecting by the intimate relationship of faith of those who make, live and feel the Festival in all its dimensions. The entire textual body of this article finds support in the sources consulted, and the reading and interpretation of the investigated phenomenon are subsidized in the ideas of BISON (2009), MAFFESOLI (1998), SANTA BRÍGIDA (2015), LÉVI-STRAUSS (1978), GOFFMAN (1989).
