MACHADO À PROCURA DA POESIA

Resumo

Resumo: Em meio às Poesias Dispersas, publicadas esparsamente entre 1855 e 1908 e reunidas na edição Aguilar das Obras Completas, encontram-se vários poemas que tematizam a inspiração poética, cantando as musas do sujeito lírico e seus (des)encantos. Além desses poemas, aparecem eventualmente homenagens a autores por seu estro épico e/ou lírico. Um dado que sobressalta nesses casos são as menções a poetas que pertencem à história contemporânea do autor, incluindo até recados em verso. Duas vertentes se abrem no âmbito desses poemas, deixados de lado por Machado e posteriormente coligidos: uma é a das intertextualidades que se estabelecem, a denotarem as preferências do autor, ligações de amizade e inserção no meio literário da época; a outra se constitui metaforicamente nas queixas e chamamentos do sujeito poético a suas figuras imaginárias para que sustentem sua inspiração. Desses poemas, depreendem-se noções da poética romântica, apesar do inato “comedimento sentimental” de que fala Manuel Bandeira, assim como, em um ou outro texto, certa ironia quanto às fontes que a alimentam, a indiciar o mesmo ceticismo de sua obra em prosa.

Abstract: Among the Poesias Dispersas, published sparsely between 1855 and 1908, and gathered in the Aguilar edition of Complete Works, there are several poems that thematize poetic inspiration, singing the muses of the lyrical subject and its (dis)enchantments. In addition to them, tributes to authors sparsely appear for their epic and/or lyrical stature. It stands out in these cases the mentions of poets who belong to the author's contemporary history, including even messages in verse. Two strands open up within these poems, set aside by Machado and later collected. One is the intertextualities that are established, denoting the author's preferences, friendship links and insertion in the literary milieu of the time. The other is metaphorically constituted in the poetic subject's complaints and appeals to his imaginary figures to support his inspiration. From these poems, notions of romantic poetics can be inferred, despite the innate “sentimental restraint” that Manuel Bandeira speaks of, as well as, in one or another text, a certain irony regarding the sources that feed it, showing the same skepticism of his prose work.
