CAETANO VELOSO, INTÉRPRETE DO BRASIL DO SÉCULO XXI

Resumo

Resumo: Desde os anos 1960, o Tropicalismo situou-se na cultura do Brasil não só como um movimento artístico ou musical, mas como uma interpretação do país, que foi e ainda é sublinhada por diversos comentadores, desde críticos até artistas. Mas, a obra de seus protagonistas, como Caetano Veloso, continuou desenvolvendo-se nas décadas seguintes até hoje. Nesse artigo, o objetivo é entender a interpretação do Brasil nos trabalhos autorais de Caetano Veloso no século XXI, especialmente a trilogia de álbuns com a banca Cê e Recanto, de Gal Costa. Essa interpretação apresenta continuidades com o Tropicalismo, como a confiança na potência da equação antropofágica modernista que “o mundo ainda se torce para entender”, mas também diferenças, como certa melancolia face a “tudo que não deu certo”. Caetano apresenta uma tensão entre um projeto civilizatório informalmente cordial e a necessidade das leis formais na sociedade, entre a miscigenação sincrética e a convivência multicultural.

Abstract: Since the 1960s, Tropicalismo has been part of Brazilian culture not only as an artistic or musical movement but also as an interpretation of the country, which has been and still is emphasized by various commentators, from critics to artists. However, the work of its protagonists, such as Caetano Veloso, has continued to evolve in the following decades until today. The goal of this article is to understand the interpretation of Brazil in Caetano Veloso's original works in the 21st century, especially the trilogy of albums with the band Cê and Recanto by Gal Costa. This interpretation shares continuities with Tropicalismo, such as the confidence in the power of the modernist anthropophagic equation that "the world is still struggling to understand," but also differences, such as a certain melancholy in the face of "everything that didn't work out." Caetano presents a tension between an informal or cordial civilizational project and the need for formal laws in society, between syncretic miscegenation and multicultural coexistence.
