OS CONTORNOS DA FORMA DE CIDADE DE DEUS: A DICÇÃO NEGRO-PERIFÉRICA

Resumo: O presente trabalho analisa os processos de racialização no romance Cidade de Deus, de Paulo Lins, a fim de destacar os momentos em que se apresenta uma “dicção negro-periférica”, identificada como uma voz de denúncia do processo social autoritário e racista que se desenrola ao longo da segunda metade do século XX na periferia do Rio de Janeiro. Para tanto, busca-se estabelecer aquelas que seriam as linhas de força para a composição dessa obra: a origem em uma pesquisa etnográfica, a forma romanesca que se quer tradicional e os conflitos raciais inerentes ao cenário das periferias urbanas brasileiras. A hipótese é de que a acomodação desses fatores cria alguns impasses formais, devido ao arranjo intrincado tanto da forma quanto do processo social que se desdobra nela. Encontra-se, no fim, uma relação tensiva entre a forma romanesca e a dicção negro-periférica, que é dada pelo modo como se compõe a narrativa, marcada pela nota lírica e pelo refinamento dos recursos literários e, ao mesmo tempo, pela violência e pelo racismo que estruturam a vida nas periferias brasileiras.

Abstract: This paper analyzes the processes of racialization in the novel City of God, by Paulo Lins, in order to highlight the moments in which a "black-peripheral diction" is presented, identified as a voice of denunciation of the authoritarian and racist social process that unfolded during the second half of the twentieth century in the outskirts of Rio de Janeiro. To this end, we seek to establish what would be the lines of force for the composition of this work: the origin in an ethnographic research, the novel form that wants to be traditional, and the racial conflicts inherent in the scenario of the Brazilian urban peripheries. The hypothesis is that the accommodation of these factors creates some formal impasses, owed to the intricate arrangement of both the form and the social process that unfolds in it. One finds, in the end, a tense relationship between the novel form and the black-peripheral diction, which is given by the way the narrative is composed, marked by the lyrical note and the refinement of literary resources and, at the same time, by the violence and racism that structure life in the Brazilian peripheries.
