EUCLIDES DA CUNHA FILHO: O ANIQUILAMENTO DO “EU” EM NOME DA HONRA DO “OUTRO”

Resumo: O estigma do nome e o desfecho trágico, projetados sobre os destinos do pai, Euclides da Cunha, e do filho homônimo, Euclides da Cunha Filho, o Quidinho, suscitam indagações capazes de transcender a apresentação objetiva dos fatos documentados pela história, a respeito do homicídio que extinguiu da cena literária nacional um de seus mais emblemáticos representantes. O propósito da presente reflexão é apresentar uma análise de textos proveniente de diversas fontes, os quais se ocuparam em compor, ainda que de modo muitas vezes reticente e contraditório, a representação identitária do filho que aparentemente aniquilou o seu “eu” em nome da honra do “outro”. Em meio às inúmeras controvérsias e divergências que emolduram ambos os episódios transcorridos na capital fluminense, nas primeiras décadas do século XX, nos propomos, também, a recuperar as poucas páginas que registraram a voz de Quidinho, sob a forma de correspondências, textos endereçados a jornais e depoimentos, a fim de delinear uma possível interpretação sobre a forma encontrada pelo “eu” para honrar e, por consequência, extinguir-se em nome do “outro”.

Abstract: The stigma of the name and the tragic outcome, projected on the fate of the father, Euclides da Cunha, and the homonymous son, Euclides da Cunha Filho, Quidinho, raise questions capable of transcending the objective presentation of the facts documented by history, about the murder that extinguished one of its most emblematic representatives of the national literary scene. The purpose of this reflection is to present an analysis of texts from different sources, such as those which were occupied in composing, although often in a reticent and contradictory manner, the identity representation of the son who apparently annihilated his “self” in the name of the honor of the “other”. Among countless controversies and divergences that frame both episodes that took place in Rio de Janeiro, in the first decades of the 20th century, we also propose to recover the few pages that recorded the voice of Quidinho, in form of correspondence, texts addressed to newspapers and testimonies, in order to outline a possible interpretation of the path found by the “I” to honor and, consequently, extinguish itself in the name of the “other”.
