A TESSITURA DA LITERATURA E DA HISTÓRIA EM O RETRATO

Resumo

Resumo: Neste ensaio sobre O Retrato, no seu 70º. aniversário de publicação, apontam-se não só os procedimentos empregados pelo narrador na realização da narrativa e na ficcionalização dos aspectos históricos, como também se comenta a relação que Literatura e História estabelecem quando conjugadas no campo da ficção. Em virtude da estrutura organizada por Erico Verissimo, impuseram-se várias incursões às outras partes da saga, em especial à terceira, O Arquipélago, à busca de elementos fundamentais para a sustentação dos argumentos aqui desenvolvidos. A análise empreendida comprova que a História, em O Retrato, aparece imbricada intrinsecamente ao universo ficcional, de modo que os modelos de caudilhos rio-grandenses ganham substância física, emocional e política na figura carismática de Rodrigo Terra Cambará.

Abstract: In this essay about O Retrato, the second part of O Tempo e o Vento, in the year of its 70th aniversary of publication,  are pointed out not only the procedures of the narrator in carrying out the narrative and in the fictionalization of historical aspects, but also comments on the relationship that Literature and History establish when combined in the field of fiction. Due to the structure organized by Erico Verissimo, several incursions were imposed on other parts of the saga, especially the third one, O Arquipélago, in order find fundamental elements to support the hereby developed arguments. The analysis carried out proves that History, in O Retrato, appears intrinsically intertwined with the fictional universe, in such a way that the models of Rio Grande do Sul caudillos gain physical, emotional and political substance in the charismatic figure of Rodrigo Terra Cambará.
