Abstract

Jorge Kagnãg Garcia is a kujà (a shaman) kaingang, whose auxiliary spirits are the jaguar and the saint São Jorge. He is a 97 years old man, who belongs to the kamẽ half, and lives in Terra Indígena Nonoai. Jorge is a speaker with a remarkable contribution to ethnological thought. Apart from being mentioned intexts countless times, he is the protagonist of the following documentaries: Kanhgág Ag Kãme (Kaingang Stories), Kiki – The Ritual of Kaingang Resistence and Kanhgág Kanhró (Kaingang Wisdom), and, also, of the CD Kanhgág Jykre (Kaingang Thought). Furthermore, he is the spiritual leader of the Meeting of the Kujà, in the Ỹmã Topẽ Pẽn village, in Morro do Osso, Porto Alegre, and of the Dia do Índio, in Por Fi Gá, São Leopoldo. Jorge is, besides all that, the organiser of the Kiki Ritual in Kondá village, in Chapecó, and the indigenous master of the governmental project Saberes Indígenas na Escola.
