KAIOWÁ AND GUARANI ASSEMBLIES AND RETAKING
PATHS OF STRUGGLE AND RESISTANCE/ TRADITIONAL RE-EXISTENCE

In this study we approach the resistance and re-existence of the Kaiowá and Guarani peoples of Mato Grosso do Sul. The Kaiowá and Guarani, like other native peoples, have a long history of struggle for physical and cultural survival in the face of the violent onslaughts of colonization. From the methodological understanding of inhabiting the field and self-ethnography, with the recording of experiences in a diary, plus the analysis of public documents, we seek approach us to the meanings of the resistance and re-existence Kaiowá and Guarani through dialogue with Aty Guasu , the Great Assembly and the social ethnic organization of these peoples. We emphasize the importance of intracommunity/intercommunity assemblies and the retaking of original territories as a significant expression of Kaiowá and Guarani resistance and re-existence. It is these movements, guided by traditional practices and knowledge, that have enable/and enable the fight for life and survival in search of teko araguyje, the sacred way of being and living.
