Abstract

This article studies aspects of an oral mythical traditional narrative from Parkatêjê language, the text Pyt me Kaxer, or the text of the Sun and Moon, which presents core questions from the Parkatêjê culture. The study of texts allows the understanding of linguistic and discursive aspects. In this case, we observed mainly discursive aspects which put together language, culture, and society. The narratives from the Parkatêjê people have the main function of storage, accumulation, and transmission of knowledge. Through these texts, discourse is linguistically expressed. So, this paper, based on the methodology of descriptive linguistics, textual linguistics, and studies of oral texts, aims at approaching issues on the formal and discursive structure of narratives collected by me, in different field trips, with attention to the subject matter of the selected narrative.
