Abstract

The article aims to reflect on the health care that the Warao have in Brazil. As Venezuelan indigenous people, most of whom are part of the protective refugee system in Brazil, they have universal access to health care through the Unified Health System (SUS). This reality appears to resolve their health problems. However, guaranteeing them access to the network does not include the differentiated attention they have the right and need as indigenous people. Even with access to the network, they do not avoid the problems related to being migrants and refugees from another country, such as not being fluent in Portuguese and not being familiar with the operation of the network. As indigenous people, they find themselves in a situation similar to that of their Brazilian relatives in an urban context, that is, with access to the network, but unassisted in relation to differentiated attention. This fundamentally implies not having health care guided by their cultural specificities.
