Banida! De Leiria ao Brasil: A trajetória de uma cristã-nova no século XVII
Resumo
O presente artigo apresenta a trajetória da cristã nova Ângela Soares, natural de Leiria e moradora de Lisboa após as núpcias, processada duas vezes pelo Tribunal do Santo Ofício da Inquisição de Lisboa por supostas práticas de judaísmo e banida para o Brasil nos anos de 1680. O intuito é discutir a vigilância, a perseguição e a intolerância.
Banned! From Leiria to Brazil: the trajectory of a New Christian in the 17th century - Abstract: This article presents the history of the New Christian Ângela Soares, born in Leiria, a resident of Lisbon after the wedding, sued twice by the Inquisition of Lisbon for alleged practices of Judaism and banished to Brazil in the 1680s. The aim is to discuss surveillance, persecution and religious intolerance against the New Christian social group in the 17th century.
