Kabbalah: transgression or heresy? - Abstract: The history of the Jewish mysticism, known as Kabala, has shown from its origins a path of intense debates and conflicts between the Kabalistic and the rabbinic authorities. Found in an intersection between philosophy and religion, the Kabala frequently encountered the esoteric as a protection shield against external and internal risks such as excommunication and the transformation from spirituality to infirmary, respectively. During the hardest moments in Jewish History, the Kabala found massive popular support from those in search for hope and compensation for the misfortunes of the exile. In that scenario, this article proposes the discussion of the transgression side of the Jewish mysticism and its conflicting moments that make it border on heresy.
