Valores e significados atribuídos ao território: percepção dos usuários sobre o bairro cidade baixa

Resumo

Ao investigar a cidade como lugar de experiências, requer-se a sua apreciação tanto sob a ótica das características do espaço urbano, quanto das condições sociais e culturais da população que o habita. A cidade pode ser estudada em sua diversidade de usos e usuários, bem como dos conflitos e negociações de convivência decorrentes dessa pluralidade. A percepção sobre o território “bairro” pelos usuários é importante face à necessidade de conciliar sua diversidade de usos. Assim, compreender o “bairro” funcionalmente e simbolicamente permite identificar os espaços socialmente utilizados, bem como os processos de conflito e negociação de convivência existentes. Neste artigo, busca-se compreender os valores e significados atribuídos ao bairro através da percepção de usuários em relação às suas características locais através de entrevistas. As contribuições do estudo referem-se à compreensão dos usuários em relação ao contexto do bairro, destacando, além dos seus aspectos materiais, os aspectos simbólicos, considerando as significações e narrativas dos usuários sobre as questões urbanas locais.

Values and meanings attributed to the territory: users 'perception about the Cidade Baixa neighborhood

Abstract

When investigating the city as a place of experience, it is required to appreciate both from the point of view of the characteristics of the urban space, and of the social and cultural conditions of the population that inhabits it. The city can be studied in its diversity of uses and users, as well as the conflicts and negotiations of coexistence resulting from this plurality. The perception about the territory "neighborhood" by users is important in view of the need to reconcile their diversity of uses. Therefore, understanding the "neighborhood" functionally and symbolically allows us to identify the socially used spaces, as well as existing conflict and negotiation coexistence processes. In this article, seeking to understand the values and meanings attributed to the neighborhood through the perception of users in relation to their local characteristics. The contributions of the study refer to the users' understanding of the neighborhood context, highlighting, in addition to their aspects, the symbolic aspects, considering the meanings and narratives of the users on local urban issues.
