The Lost Adolescence: body and perversion in Larry Clark’s cinema

Abstract

We propose to raise and problematize some questions about the image of adolescence from a visit of three films by the American filmmaker Larry Clark: Kids (1995); Ken Park (2002) and The Smell of Us (2015). We try to show that perversion becomes, in the clarkean narratives, a stylistic maneuver, possible to de captured in the film form itself, something that constrains the reader and that reveals itself in the ways of addressing / framing the gaze on these adolescents, in the ways of inscribing the elastic and unfinished matter of their bodies in the space of the film.

Key words: Cinema. Perversion. Adolescence. Larry Clark.
